Arne Jacobsen Ant Chair for Fritz Hansen

£295.00

The Ant designed by Arne Jacobsen, is probably the world’s first industrially produced chair with a seat shell in an uninterrupted form made out of three-dimensionally bent plywood. Conceived in 1952, it was the result of a commission to design a chair for the canteen at the Danish pharmaceutical company Novo, for whom Jacobsen had been working as an architect.

This particular example of the Ant is a very early one, dating to the 1950s. To the underside you’ll see a metal base with Fritz Hansen embossed, as apposed to examples from the 1960s onwards that used a plastic base frame.

It’s in great condition for the age, with the expected amount of patina, under our care we have simply cleaned and polished it.
